How is airtime redeemed and how is it converted to data bundles?

How can I access the iPad portal?

An iPad user can use the following links to access the iPad portal:

http://onnet.8ta.com and http://ipad.8ta.com - These new links will bypass the login and registration pages as long as the iPad device is connected to the internet via the 8ta network or MTN roaming.

https://home.8ta.com/ipad - Should the subscriber be connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi, they will be presented with the self service portal where logging in will be required.

https://home.8ta.com/ipadreg - This web address requires the iPad user to register.

Where do I register to start using the iPad Portal?

An iPad user has two options:

  • On-net - Connected to 8.ta’s 3G network or MTN roaming? View airtime and data balances, redeem airtime vouchers and purchase data bundles without the hassle of registering or logging in to the self service portal – http://onnet.8ta.com and http://ipad.8ta.com
  • Off-net – Accessing the Internet via Wi-Fi, LAN, ADSL or other ISPs? Register an account or log in to the self service portal to view airtime and data balances, redeem airtime vouchers and purchase data bundles – https://home.8ta.com/ipadreg.

Will I incur any data cost to register or use the iPad portal?

No, this site is zero rated so subscribers won’t be charged.

Is there an option to store the login details on the portal so that users don’t have to remember them?

No, currently this functionality is not available. However, subscribers can access the on-net portal at  http://onnet.8ta.com or http://ipad.8ta.com where no registration or login is required.

How do I retrieve my lost or forgotten password?

Currently this functionality is not available on the iPad portal; subscribers who lose their passwords will be required to reregister using their SIM ID and ID number used during the RICA registration process. Alternatively subscribers can access the on-net portal at https://onnet.8ta.com or http://ipad.8ta.com where no registration or login is required.

Why was my airtime balance depleted while attempting to purchase a data bundle?

Users should make sure that there are no applications running on the device, which might use up the airtime.

Where do I check my balances?

Airtime and data bundle balances can be viewed on the iPad, on-net or off-net portal.

  • On-net - Connected to 8.ta’s 3G network or MTN roaming? View airtime and data bundle balances, redeem airtime vouchers and purchase data bundles without the hassle of registering or logging in to the self service portal – http://onnet.8ta.com and http://ipad.8ta.com
  • Off-net – Accessing the Internet via Wi-Fi, LAN, ADSL or other ISPs? Register an account or log in to the self service portal to view airtime and data bundle balances, redeem airtime vouchers and purchase data bundles – https://home.8ta.com/ipad

Why is my balance not updating on the portal after redeeming an airtime voucher or purchasing a bundle?

To view updated balances the user needs to restart their iPad device, then on again to get an updated balance.

What should I do if I get added to the recharge blacklist?

This happens after 3 failed attempts to redeem airtime, which could be because of an invalid voucher number being entered. If this happens, users should call 081 101 and have the voucher number and the barcode on the voucher ready.

Why is my airtime still being consumed after I have purchased a data bundle?

To start consuming data from the purchased Data bundle, users need to restart their iPad device.

What happens when I run out of airtime or use up my data bundle?

Upon depletion of the iPad once-off internet data bundle, the subscriber shall be redirected to the page where they shall be given these choice:

  • Choose to surf at out-of-bundle rates of R 1.00 per MB
  • Purchase another iPad Once-Off Internet Data Bundle
  • Redeem an Airtime Voucher
  • Top Up Airtime via Credit Card or EFT

What should I do if the iPad portal is not available and I'm presented with an Internal Server Error?

If subscribers encounter any technical errors, they should call 081 101 for technical support.

When I insert the 8ta SIM card into my iPad for the first time it picks up the MTN network, is this correct?

Yes, this is correct. 8ta’s SIM cards will initially roam on MTN’s network but this is normally updated every day at midnight after which the network defaults to the 8ta network, provided that the subscriber falls within 8ta’s coverage area..

I cannot purchase airtime through the Credit Card Functionality?

To use the credit card functionality, subscribers will be required to register on the Bankserv site once-off. This website is not zero rated and subscribers will be required to have airtime in their wallets to access this site. Once registered on the Bankserv site, subscribers should be able to access and use the credit card functionality on the portal going forward without the need for airtime as the site is zero rated.

I cannot see the iPad Promo data bundle in the iPad Portal?

There is a possibility that the SIM card was not marked for iPad use. Please contact the Call Centre on 081 101 and report the problem.
