What is the ‘Free Wi-Fi for Everyone’ offer?
Telkom Mobile are offering 30 minutes a day of free unlimited Wi-Fi to all Telkom Mobile and non-Telkom Mobile customers. The 30 minutes access will be time based and you will need to ensure that you are within a Telkom Mobile Wi-Fi hotspot to make use of the offer.

Who can participate in the offer?

  • All non-Telkom Mobile customers, including MTN, Cell C and Vodacom customers.
  • Telkom Mobile contract, hybrid and prepaid subscribers who currently do not qualify for free unlimited Wi-Fi on their existing plans.

Which devices can I use to access the free Wi-Fi offer?
You’ll need a device that has Wi-Fi capability, such as a personal computer, laptop, video game console, smartphone, tablet or digital audio player. The device must also be able to send and receive SMSes.

What is SSID?
SSID stand for Service Set Identifier. It's the name of a wireless network that shows up when you do a network search. For the free Wi-Fi trial, the SSID to choose is ‘1 Telkom Guest’.

How do I connect to the Wi-Fi signal using an Android based device?
Follow these steps:

  • Go to your settings, turn on your Wi-Fi, and search for nearby Wi-Fi networks.
  • Connect to the wireless network: “1 Telkom Guest”
  • In future, you’ll be seamlessly connected to Telkom Mobile Wi-Fi when your Wi-Fi is switched on.

How do I connect to the Wi-Fi signal using an iOS based device?

How many PINs can I request?
You can request and receive one Wi-Fi voucher PIN code per cellphone number, per day.

Where do I use the Wi-Fi voucher PIN?
It can be used within any Telkom Mobile Wi-Fi hotspot.

What do I need to do to access the free Wi-Fi when I am in a Telkom Mobile Wi-Fi hotspot?

  • Switch on Wi-Fi on your device.
  • Search for Wi-Fi signals.
  • Select the “1 Telkom Guest” network.
  • The Telkom Mobile Wi-Fi portal will pop up.
  • Enter PIN sent to you via SMS.
  • Press OK.
  • You’ll be redirected to your default browser page.
  • Enjoy your 30 minutes of unlimited Wi-Fi internet access.

For how long can I use the voucher PIN to access Telkom Mobile Wi-Fi?
You’ll get 30 minutes of free Wi-Fi access when you redeem the PIN sent to you. Once activated, you will be able to use the internet until the 30 minutes is depleted. You need to ensure that you are within a Telkom Mobile Wi-Fi hotspot when redeeming the PIN.

Does the PIN SMS expire after a certain period if not used?
Yes, all unused PIN vouchers will expire when the campaign ends.

Can I use any Wi-Fi hotspot to access Telkom Mobile Wi-Fi?
No, this offer’s free Wi-Fi access is limited to Telkom Mobile Wi-Fi hotspots.

Who does not qualify for the free Wi-Fi offer?

  • International roaming customers, while abroad.
  • Internet cafes or illegal reselling of the free Wi-Fi offer.
  • Customers not in a Telkom Mobile Wi-Fi hotspot.
  • The free Wi-Fi is not available via a 3G, LTE or MTN roaming base station.
  • Malfunctioning Wi-Fi enabled devices.
  • Suspended free Wi-Fi internet abusers.

What happens if I get an error while redeeming a PIN voucher using an S4 device?
The S4 device may display a WhatsApp error when connecting to the 1 Telkom Guest network. This is due to WhatsApp requiring constant internet connectivity. When you connect to the 1 Telkom Guest network you do not have internet connectivity as your cellular network is dropped when connected to Wi-Fi.

How do I resolve this error?
The error will be resolved when you enter the PIN on the portal as internet connectivity will be resumed, thus allowing apps like WhatsApp to connect.

What happens if I get an error while redeeming a PIN voucher using a Sony Xperia Z Ultra device?
The device may not automatically redirect you to a website when you enter a search term in the address field (e.g. news24). This is due to SSL traffic being initiated and not doing a DNS lookup.

How do I resolve the error?
The error can be resolved by entering a full website address e.g. www.news24.co.za.

What number can I call if I don’t receive my PIN?
Please contact the call centre on 081 180.

Is dialing the call centre free?
The call centre number is free for all Telkom Mobile subscribers. Non-Telkom Mobile subscribers will be charged at their standard call rate.

Terms and Conditions
  • You will be able to connect to Telkom Mobile’s Wi-Fi access network if you are within range of a Telkom Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot. The range of Wi-Fi signal also depends on the location of the Access Point and the environment surroundings e.g. Access Point is placed behind concrete walls.
  • A Wi-Fi compatible device or a device that supports Wi-Fi connectivity must be used to connect to the Telkom Mobile Wi-Fi access network. The device must support the IEEE 802.11b, g, or n wireless LAN technology standard in order to connect to Telkom Mobile Wi-Fi network.
  • You will not be able to connect to Telkom Mobile Wi-Fi access network if your device does not support wireless LAN technology.
  • Telkom Mobile reserves the right to throttle all traffic types consumed using the Telkom Mobile Wi-Fi network that we deem to be abusive traffic.
  • The Telkom Mobile Wi-Fi Service is available at various hotspots in South Africa, please visit the site: http://www.telkommobile.co.za/wifilocations/ to find where the hotspots are located. Telkom Mobile will endeavor to make Wi-Fi access available where Telkom Mobile claims to have Wi-Fi Hotspot, however there might be access restrictions to customers imposed by the venue operator.
  • Telkom Mobile will endeavor to provide uninterrupted access to the Wi-Fi Service and also inform customers in advance whenever there is interruption with the service. However, Telkom Mobile still maintains the right to suspend, modify Telkom Mobile Wi-Fi Services or any part of it without giving you notice for emergency technical repairs. Telkom Mobile shall not and cannot be held accountable or responsible for the non-functioning of Wi-Fi services as this will be offered on a best effort service bases.
  • Telkom Mobile shall not and cannot be held responsible for security of your information which includes, without limitation, data you transmit on the Telkom Mobile Wi-Fi network, nor is Telkom Mobile responsible for the accuracy, completeness or timeliness of any information obtained through the Service from the Internet.
  • You need to have a valid Cellphone number from any of the South African mobile operators, and the Cellphone number needs to be active on the respective mobile operator’s network and the SIM card must be in a device that has the ability to receive an SMS.
  • A free Wi-Fi voucher pin will be sent to your Cellphone number via SMS once you have accepted Telkom Mobile’s Terms and Conditions.
  • You need to be in the vicinity of a Telkom Mobile Hotspot to redeem your free Wi-Fi voucher pin.
  • You need to connect to 1 Telkom Guest signal once you are in a Telkom Mobile Hotspot, and access any website to be redirected to a landing page which will allow you to redeem your Wi-Fi voucher pin.
  • Only one Telkom Mobile 30 minute voucher pin will be provided to the requesting Cellphone number per day. Provision of vouchers shall be at Telkom Mobile’s sole discretion.
  • Visit http://www.telkommobile.co.za/wifilocations/ to see locations where you can use your voucher. Connect to 1 Telkom Guest. Enter your pin and start browsing.
  • You will be charged R1.00 to send an SMS to a short code and thereby receiving a free promotional voucher to use at any Telkom Mobile Hotspot.
  • Unused vouchers that have not been redeemed by the the end date of the trial will be expired and rendered unusable after this date.
  • By accepting the terms and conditions you also give Telkom Mobile the right to market its products and campaigns to the Cellphone number provided during the request for a free Telkom Mobile Wi-Fi voucher .Upon entering a mobile number and subsequently requesting the pass code is the user’s explicit acceptance of the terms and conditions set above.

Acceptable usage policy:

  • Telkom Mobile shall proactively monitor the traffic on the Wi-Fi network for the following deviations:
    • The sending of excessive numbers of e-mails or excessively large files which, in Telkom Mobile’s sole opinion, negatively affects the performance of the network or any server on the network.
    • You may not provide network services from your account (for example, you may not use your account to operate as an FTP server).
    • You may not employ automated electronic or mechanical processes designed to defeat network inactivity time-outs. Such tools include, but are not limited to, repetitive pinging the host.
    • You may not use resource-intensive programs which negatively impact other customers or the performance of Telkom Mobile systems or networks. e.g. P2P.
    • Reselling of bandwidth from the Wi-Fi service will be regarded as fraud.
  • Telkom Mobile will regard the above as fraudulent activity and suspend the service immediately pending an investigation. (Note: Telkom Mobile reserves the right to suspend/terminate this service when any fraudulent activity is suspected).
  • Telkom Mobile reserves the right to downgrade this service when abuse is detected.
  • Telkom Mobile reserves the right at any time to terminate the Wi-Fi data session and Wi-Fi trial without prior notification.
  • Telkom Mobile free Wi-Fi trial shall run for a limited time period.
